Fake Bessons Horns!
This page is here as a warning to people who might fall for the phoney "Bessons" horns that are all over Ebay. Not only are these horns fraudulent, but they play like garbage. They are made in India by the thousands, out of inferior materials, with subpar workmanship, then passed off as vintage instruments to the unknowledgeable.
FACT: There never was a company named "Bessons." The counterfeiters use this name because it is so similar to "Besson" (note the lack of the "s"), which was a respected British horn maker.
FACT: Almost all of these horns have the exact same serial number stamped on them, "75983", most of the time with an "H" prefix, but sometimes without.
FACT: Most of these horns come pre-aged, that is slightly battered, with darkening of lacquer, etc. to make them seem old, when they are in fact about as old as last month.
FACT: If you pay $20.00 for one of these horns, that's about $19.00 too much.
Don't believe me? Take a look at the Ebay auctions below. They all have the same serial number. You will need to have Adobe Reader installed to view the PDFs.
